Did you know that we can lose up to 8% muscle strength per decade? And that this starts from around age 30?!? That's a potential loss of 40% by age 80 if we choose to do nothing.
Don't despair however! Simple steps to maintain and improve strength can prevent and reverse these changes no matter what age you are.
And exercise doesn't need to be a gym class or a 5 mile run...simple activities that you enjoy and that get muscles working are just as good.
Gardening, table tennis, walking football, bowls and even drumming are all activities that will get muscles working...and the old saying "use it or lose it" is still very true.
Find something you enjoy, make it social if you prefer and if you want a simple place to start take a look at The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy website. They have some useful ideas for simple exercises you can do very simply at home to help you stay active and keep those muscles working.
Of course you can always book an appointment with Carol to get specific, personal exercises tailored to your own needs if you prefer but these can be a nice place to start with some good ideas to get you going.
If you experience pain or have symptoms during or after exercising then please contact Carol to discuss getting an assessment and advice.
