Physiotherapy Assessment

You will receive a thorough assessment of your signs and symptoms to build a full picture of your problem.

During your assessment we'll take a full history and examination to work out the most appropriate treatment for you. As well as starting your treatment at this visit, you can also expect to be provided with advice and a home exercise program tailored to you, taking into account your personal symptoms, goals and expectations.

Joint Pain/ Muscle Pain/ Arthritis

Chronic or acute - most joint, muscle and ligament problems can be helped by physiotherapy but if you're unsure about your particular problem, please call and I'll be happy to assist.

And it's worth remembering that whilst we can't cure arthritis, we can still help with the symptoms and day to day pain as well as flare-ups

Headaches

Headaches are common and can often be due to neck stiffness and muscle tension. I have specialist post-graduate training in the treatment of headaches.

But please be aware headaches can have many causes and not all can be treated with physiotherapy. You may be advised to speak with your GP or other medical provider if there is any doubt in order to rule out other medical causes. Call for an initial chat about your pain.

Exercise Advice

Advice on specific exercise for your problem in addition to general lifestyle and exercise advice, tailored to your needs.  With virtually all physiotherapy assessments and treatment you can expect to be given appropriate home exercises and self-help advice to enhance your treatment and speed up your recovery

Surgery and Fracture Recovery

From joint replacements to broken bones, the hard work often starts once you get home. Get the most out of your recovery with the right treatment, exercises, guidance and advice.

And if something's not right? We'll help you get back on track or refer you back to your consultant when appropriate.

Sometimes just the reassurance that you're already doing everything right can really help.

Going in for planned surgery? Did you know that strengthening your muscles and preparing BEFORE your surgery can speed up recovery afterwards and get you recovering quicker? Book a pre-op assessment today and give yourself the best chance of recovery.

Sciatica and back/neck pain

Most people will have experienced either back or neck pain at some point in their lives.

Don't let it stop you from living your best life and enjoying the things you want to do.

Chronic Pain

Pain that lasts for more than a few months is considered chronic pain, and can have a serious effect on your overall well-being. Together, we’ll explore the source and behaviours relating to your pain and create a program that includes providing the right self-management advice to help you control symptoms and maximise your potential. I have undertaken further training in managing chronic pain and am well placed to try to help you find a pathway to achieve at least some of your goals.
And remember just because a problem can't be "cured" doesn't mean it can't be helped.
But please ask if you're still unsure whether physio is right for you.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture can be a great addition to treatment as a form of pain control. I use western medical acupuncture, with some traditional methods to achieve pain relief for your condition, whatever the cause.
Whilst acupuncture doesn't work for everyone it can often provide pain relief as an alternative or alongside your current pain control.
I am trained in acupuncture for pain relief only (which means I can't help with anything non-pain related such as stopping smoking, weight-loss etc) so why not ask whether this ancient but evidence based and NICE recommended technique could be right for you?
Needles are all single-use, sterile needles. they are very fine and most people find that treatment is completely painless or with only a mild discomfort.
Ask if acupuncture is suitable for you

Home Visits

Whether you are unable to get to clinic or would just prefer to be seen in the comfort of your own home or workplace, a home visit may be the answer.

Whether you are unable to get out or just remain anxious about venturing out for whatever reason that's OK and it doesn't have to prevent you from receiving physiotherapy.

Maybe you've had recent surgery and aren't yet feeling up to getting out but would like some extra physio to help get you back on track? Maybe you still feel uneasy about attending clinic or public places

Carol can travel to you * and if necessary can provide a portable treatment couch, mobile head rest and other equipment and sometimes we can just use what you already have at home.

As a musculoskeletal physio, please note that some conditions may not be best suited to this type of physio. Please discuss with us and if we feel a different type of physio is needed (eg. neuro, respiratory) we will advise you on this.

(*no extra cost for addresses within 5 miles of clinic. Additional fee based on mileage may be charged if further affield- please discuss prior to your initial appointment)

Bell's Palsy Management

Bell's palsy affects one side of the face, causing paralysis of the facial nerves. This means that the muscles that move your face stop working (imagine them like an electrical device unplugged from the socket). Most people would recognise the image of someone with a dropped mouth corner or cheek.  Early medical treatment with steroids is recommended (within 72 hours of onset-so don’t delay in seeing a doctor!) but there are important things you can (and should not) do to help your recovery. This is where physio here at Chapeltown and High Green Physiotherapy can help.

Most cases will resolve and the nerves recover but overactivity and compensatory movement can cause longer term issues. The temptation to over exercise can lead to more problems and impede recovery if not done correctly. There are things you (and we) can do and advise in order to help however.

Initial Specialised Assessment (including baseline measurements and treatment) £120 (1.5 hours)

*Always seek urgent medical attention if you or someone you know develops facial weakness to rule out other more serious causes*

Virtual / Remote Appointments

During the pandemic remote physiotherapy appointments became popular and really kept some people going. You can still receive a professional assessment and treatment plan from the comfort of your home or even the convenience of the office.

Virtual/ remote appointments continue to be an option even now that clinic is open for those clients who are unable to get out or maybe  just prefer this to attending for a clinic appointment. Maybe you're travelling away from home or taking a break but still want to be assessed before waiting to return home?

Appointments will usually be held over Zoom link and some people are surprised to learn just how much we can achieve despite not physically laying hands on you! This is because a lot of diagnosis is made through the history we gather and from the assessment, which can be observed as you carry out clear instruction over Zoom.

Virtual Assessment £45; follow-up £40

Work Station/ DSE Assessments

DSE assessment of workstation at home or office can be arranged, taking into consideration any existing aches and pains.

Incorrect set-up can lead to muscle strain, back pain and more - so make sure you're not contributing un-necessarily to pain and make your work station work for you.

Did you know that every employer must protect its workers from health risks at work?  This includes display screen equipment such as PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones. If these are used for more than an hour at work or in your own home, the DSE regulations (1992) regulations apply to you.

Perfect for home workers or office-based staff.

Appointments will assess set-up of desk, chair and associated equipment/workspace and recommendations made as to any alterations, additional equipment and postural considerations.

A written report can be provided for you/your employer.
